Today’s world of online networking and online community has caused a loss of true relationships. Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and others have caused many to think they have many friends but in reality they find themselves alone. I am not against these things (in fact I use and enjoy them all) I am just nervous about overuse.
Real friends are replaced with Facebook friends. Real conversations are replaced with chat rooms and text messaging. Real intimacy is replaced with online dating and pornography.
Now more than ever the church must stand up and build real community. This means people coming facing to face and sharing life together. This means people embracing one another and supporting those that are needing, laughing with those in celebration and crying with those hurting. This means handling conflict and not running from it. It means working together to fulfill the greatest need and desire we have – true relationships.
True intimacy and friendships can only develop in real life situations and personal contact. We want to build a community that steps away from the computer screen, the smart phone and the tv to come into relationship with one another.
This is real life with real people. Share your life with someone.
