We have become a people of consumerism. We are bombarded with commercials trying to grab our attention and tell us to buy things to fix our problems. The church is no different in this marketing world. We have created religious subculture where people come to get their weekly fix of spiritual goods and services. People go to church and evaluate the experience based on what the service did for them.
Did I like the music? Was the teaching to my preference? What is in it for me? When we approach church in this manner, it is not long until we are bored with the “entertainment” and we are ready to move on to something new and more exciting.
This is why we need to stop going to church and start being the church. The difference is the authenticity of the person. This simple change in mind will let us live life authentically even between Sundays. We can actually be something different and real.
